Kaleidoscapes - Architectural Repository

The Kaleidoscapes architectural repository is a scheme that acts as the nexus of an experimental means of preserving historic architecture, and ensuring its existence long into the future.

This requirement to preserve architecture is born from the notion that London is losing its architectural identity; In just over a decade, London has seen the rise of many tall skyscrapers across the skyline. It can be argued that these skyscrapers are changing London’s architectural language into something much more soulless and sterile, something that is a far cry from its former self.

Kaleidoscapes addresses this issue by allowing for the production and storage of a catalogue of façade casts, façade casts which building developers will have access to. Ultimately, the intention of this design catalogue is to allow developers to select specific design elements, and apply them to their own builds.

Being a novel and experimental means of preserving architecture, Borough Market has been selected as the location for the ‘pilot scheme’ to test the preservation method’s viability. Borough Market has a rich and historic architectural lineage. This diversity of architecture would allow for a large and kaleidoscopic design catalogue for developers to utilise.
