The Undercroft Theatre Part 2 Project 2004 Elliet SpringRory Sherlock University of Melbourne | Australia The Undercroft Theatre, containing a 250-seat experimental black-box theatre, a sound-house, a gallery and restaurants/bars/cafe, is secreted within the dark undercroft of Melbourne's Concert Hall. The design exploits these elegant, yet underutilized spaces, while also referencing the city's vibrant, largely hidden lane life. The complex is conceived of as three boxes, of different sizes and materials, each wrapped in textured concrete. The first box links back to St Kilda Road, piercing the horizontal bands of the undercroft. The second box provides a glass circulation core, while the final box is the theatre itself, clad in glittering black tiles. Elliet SpringRory Sherlock Tutor(s)
