Talbot Gallery of Photography

Part 1 Project 2023

This scheme branches the connection between the old and new, through the scope of analogue and digital photography techniques. The age of modern photography has left behind much of the magic and wonder of capturing photons with photosensitive film. The approach of the Talbot Gallery immerses the user in the history of photography, through the framing of views on the approach to the site, into the site, and out of the site. This immersion is sorely missing in our daily lives, as we are often found on our phones instead of being present in the moment in time. Visitors within the Talbot Gallery are immersed within both extremes of light and shadow, and every spectrum between. This mirrors the photography development process of intense exposure to light and dark. Finally, the journey traversed by the user encapsulates the process of development from early photography to modern photography as we know it today. This journey weaves the three buildings together reflecting the collaboration of old and new, and an opportunity for the younger generation to take time away from their mobile phones to experience the true tranquility of the photographic process and contribute to the revival of a dying craft.
