Animating Edinburgh Part 2 Project 2022 William Jonathan Wood Nottingham Trent University | UK Within Edinburgh city there are a multitude of small and large film festivals ranging from the “Move Summit” to the “Edinburgh International Film Festival” which are all in need of additional facilities. The “Animating Edinburgh” project addresses these issues by creating an educational facility that will not only host festival events, but also nurture the film and theatre industry in Edinburgh. “Animating Edinburgh” utilises key spaces such as galleries, theatres, cinemas, studios, and libraries to provide Edinburgh with the best educational facilities propelling students into the film and theatre industry. The project is located on the existing site of Edinburgh’s own “Old Royal High School” which stands above the city mid-way up Calton Hill. The architecture uses a sand blasted glass façade to become a beacon over the city whilst also utilising the existing basalt cliff as its primary structural and finishing material which aids to cut embodied carbon and CO2 emissions in the city.
