A Sustainable Future Part 1 Project 2023 Tyler Dale University of Huddersfield | UK With the current ongoing housing and energy crisis, housing across the UK is not affordable for people on lower incomes. Many families, especially those living in higher cost areas such as London, are faced with a choice of paying their rent, or heating their homes.This project seeks to integrate passivhaus design principals and the UK’s Net-Zero Carbon goals, into the housing sector by adopting a methodology to reduce the whole life carbon from the removal of raw materials from the earth to the eventual end of life of a building.With the ever-growing climate crisis, it is important for the building industry to begin not only by designing buildings to be sustainable, but also to design for the uses of now and the uses of future generations, to extend the life cycle of a building beyond construction and functional use.The strategy for architects and designers is to select building materials that can be recycled, reused and repurposed, and use modern methods of construction to reduce the environmental impact both on and off site.
