Survival for the Future: Economic Inequality and Waste Management in San Cristobal Part 2 Project 2024 Lopem Louis Lojore University of Portsmouth | UK The disparity in purchasing power decelerates a Nation’s economic development. As the United Nations Sustainability goals aim to bring an equilibrium to living standards, my project supports Goals 1, 2, and 10 by identifying the gaps in the economic productivity chains. The project implements circulation of products in the chain thereby introducing a sustainable circular economy strategy.Research on the business structure and productivity within the disadvantaged San Cristobal shows a concentrated structure with 74% in the services sector; 18% industry and 7% construction. The locality is however a micro town business as 98.3% of all businesses are micro-enterprises. A study of the productivity chains in the locality further shows an open loop of products circulation. In the textile and clothing chain, the productivity loop between the consumers and the input suppliers is broken hence most of the textile waste ends up in landfill. This is not only economically unsustainable but also a danger to our environment. The project connects this link through implementation of a recycling plant forming a circular economic fabric. It also aims to empower smaller business through the provision of a business incubator, enabling growth, increasing employment and developing a sustainable economy. Lopem Louis Lojore Tutor(s)
