Soft and Quiet

Part 1 Project 2024

The starting point of this project is the forest and how its special qualities can be reflected in an architectural space – a library.

The proposed structure of the library consists of three parts:
1. Ramp – Instead of dividing the space by floors as commonly seen in buildings, the ramp offers a smooth and gentle way of vertical movement circulation.
2. Tree Branch Structure – This reduces the number of columns supporting the roof and creates the feeling of walking in the forest.
3. Triangular Pyramid Roof – The triangular roof pieces allow light to enter from all directions, evoking the sensation of walking through a forest. It consists of three parts: transparent, translucent, and solid sections to block direct sunlight.

A double glass facade will open views of the park, allowing people inside to look at nature from a new perspective and enjoy it at different times of the year. Since ramps are usually seen as moving spaces, Islands near the ramp provide spots for people to pause, rest, or read a book while going up. Additionally, these spaces are convenient for small gatherings.
