Trust, Taste and Tradition: A retreat for the women of Japan

Part 1 Project 2016

The project explores the role of the woman in Japanese culture and seeks to subvert traditional gender tropes through spaces within an artificial 'folded' landscape. It investigates 'Thresholds' as an analogy of the relationship between male and female culture, also referencing women’s historic use of origami. These 'thresholds' and 'folds' form temporary seclusion for Japanese women, allowing them to break their cultural bonds while the 'salary-man' husband is away.
