((vi er visst kommet på en feil klode, her er så underligt) he still is the greatest poet) ?what do you SEE.how CAN NATURE TAKE BACK what we once took from nature???????????the library grows into the surroundings ?light and magic .invisible ( ) can anyone CONJURE here? a never.ending bench towards north(SIT DOWN…) .a magic bridge towards south(…AND LET US CHANGE THE MOTOR TRAFFIC INTO SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL).(in the street by the library) ,the trees occupy almost the entire sidewalk .(it’s soooooooooo beautiful!) MAN MUST YIELD TO NATURE on his own way (,created by man) the library is a journey in such a L ANDSCAPE (?how could the gap between human nature and the creations of humans grow so big) everything we make must be made as SMALL as possible.................................................(remember the little human being) only the NAIVETY of man can keep the world in peace ( ) SIT WHEREVER YOU LIKE!!!!!!!where the journey is steep, it is even more natural to sit then to walk the higher you climb, the deeper you reach. ( ) .SMALL rooms in the BIGGER .privacy in greenhouses .heat in the cold. and of course the other way round. if you want to ( ) you can open up and share .rooms occur where the journey crosses itself(by the way –the journey has one close and one open side) ( )NO ONE CAN TURN VERBS INTO PHYSICAL MATERIALS & how do we create ABRUPT CONTINUITY again? ?I think we have forgotten that aside, the world is exclusively beautiful Astrid Wang The Oslo School of ArchitectureThird Year,GK6, St.Jerome vs the Machine: a library for the west end of OsloAstrid Wang The departure for Astrid Wang’s building are stories, as they would appear in books. Like the way stories develop, the building is organized as a journey along which the user discovers the different elements of a library. But this is not a forced route which has to be covered from A to B. Important to this building is also the idea of its integration into its surroundings, so that you may join the ‘story’ at many points, thus the building enclosure is made as permeable as possible. Although it is possible to use this library in an efficient ‘in and out’ manner, this building invites the user to linger, to take time to discover all it has to offer. It is not a building which reveals itself at first glance, to fully appreciate all it has to offer it places demands on the user’s time. At a time when the traditional library as a building type is being challenged by advances in digitalization we asked students to reflect on the future of the library. What is so special about Astrid Wang’s project is that rather than engaging in the digitalisation vs traditional library debate it proposes a different way to reflect on the future role of libraries, and this is to go back to origins, to the story and the book as the repositories of our culture, and then to try to engage the user in the richness of these possibilities.
