Digital Fabrication Laboratories: Adaptive Reuse of the 'Ciocanul' Trade School, Bucharest Part 2 Project 2024 Mădălina-Adriana Stănășel Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism | Romania The main theme is the Adaptive Reuse of the 'Ciocanul' Trade School and its remaking to contemporary requirements, using an approach that respects the place's identity. The site, located in a central area of Bucharest - along Calea Dudești, is recognised as the first Trade School in Bucharest dedicated to students from the Jewish community.According to information obtained through historical archive research, the school has undergone various processes of reorganisation and changes in operational strategy over time. Nevertheless, it has remained an educational institution, evolving under various scenarios or names, all related to trades, technology and professional schools. From the urban context point of view, the project aims to achieve several objectives: 1) exploiting the historical value of the site and preventing the deterioration of the heritage,2) implementing renewal interventions on Calea Dudesti and transit areas, and 3) restoring a green connection across the street and extending it.From the program perspective, the connection with the educational system is undeniably essential, being a reinterpretation of the trade school adapted to technological evolution. Specifically, the program is digital fabrication laboratories, also known as Fab Labs, which serve as a hub for learning and innovation. Mădălina-Adriana Stănășel Tutor(s)
