The project focuses on the restoration of Askeran Fortress and its harmonious integration into the surrounding landscape with contemporary functional use. Askeran Fortress is a unique historical and architectural monument located in the Khojaly district of Azerbaijan, situated on both sides of the Karkar River. The fortress is positioned on steep terrain and holds significant cultural and historical value for the region.

The main goal of the project is to restore the fortress while preserving its historical authenticity, establish connections between its separate fortress, and utilize the preserved cultural landscape to reconstruct lost parts of the structure.

The project aims to conserve the cultural and architectural heritage of Askeran, as well as to foster respect for the monuments of the Karabakh region as a whole. Near the fortress, a miniature cultural heritage park is planned, showcasing the natural features, traditional crafts, cuisine, and history of various districts in the region.

The park will include pavilions dedicated to individual Karabakh districts, featuring miniature replicas of regional monuments. This will provide a comprehensive and detailed representation of Karabakh’s cultural diversity. Such a solution is especially beneficial for people with limited mobility who cannot travel extensively but wish to explore the region. The park will also serve as a venue for school excursions, international meetings, and tourism development, encouraging further exploration of the country.

An important element of the project is the creation of an open-air night museum within the fortress, featuring light and multimedia effects, along with an annual drone show. Additionally, an annual honey festival will be held at the foothills of the fortress, highlighting the local honey production across the districts. This event will engage local communities and enrich everyday rural life.

Modern architectural and multimedia solutions emphasize the uniqueness of the cultural landscape and help attract both tourists and locals, sustaining interest in Karabakh’s heritage.
