Rathlin Island; A Landscape Repository - How Do We Archive the Landscape? Part 2 Project 2022 Zoe Gibson Ulster University | UK Rathlin Island, a small, yet fascinating archipelago, sits perched on the North Coast of Ireland, on the Straits of Moyle, conversing with neighbouring islands: The Scottish Isles. Rathlin, six miles in width and four miles in length, is anchored six miles from Ireland's shores of Ballycastle. The island carries mythological stories, historical inhabitants, tailor-made professions of island life, and 150 permanent residents. This thesis derives from my dissertation, a discussion into Architectural Archives, and how the work held in archives regenerates our architectural culture and reinvents om profession.This hand-drawn Thesis pays homage to the Art of Cartography, discussing the need to archive landscapes. Not only to create maps, to highlight territories, to understand historical growth or movement of people, but to document flora and fauna, the shift in ecology, and geological formations of the landscape. Also, stories that are stored in a community, a person, and collectively shared tc give an island its name.Raising awareness for the appreciation of the landscape that we dwell within, three "upturned boats" are created to contain the Archive of Rathlin Island.
