A Fangcang Episode Part 2 Project 2023 Yi Du Aarhus School of Architecture | Denmark Fangcang (方舱), meaning "square cabin", refers to a type of makeshift/mobile field hospital used during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. During the epidemic, eight Fangcang hospitals were built in Hong Kong, as the epidemic subsided, they were suspended one after another. Handling these temporary isolation facilities properly has become an essential issue in the post-epidemic era.The target for renovation is Kai Tak Fangcang in the Kowloon district. It is located on a long strip of land over the water, which was once the only runway for Kai Tak Airport (now decommissioned). In this project, it will be reused as a strategic reserve of facilities, at the same time, as one of the most densely populated cities in the world, appropriate optimisation and upgrading of Fangcang can alleviate the housing dilemma in Hong Kong.This project tries to explore Fangcang’ spatial potential as an efficient and mature modular organisation from an architectural perspective thereby creating an urban fabric that coexist with the city and thus better penetrates people's daily lives rather than being just cold solitudes.
