Waste Upcycling Park and Wetland Awareness Centre Part 2 Project 2022 Dihan Dhamika Angappulige City School of Architecture | Sri Lanka The present management of municipal solid waste is temporary, turning a blind eye to the cause and effect of many other overarching issues emerging in the natural environment. The mechanism to resolve this involves a turnabout of the entire process and engaging with the very communities that contribute towards its destruction.A bold statement in the city's skyline engages the passer-by and reinstates the community’s presence, stamping the importance of upcycling garbage and empowering.The proposal collectively attempts to highlight the importance of awareness by returning the stolen landfills to the wetland and initiating a cleansing process to righten the critical environmental conditions. The stigma of waste is rehandled upcycled and given new life to bring back the magic of the Muthurajawela Wetlands of Sri Lanka. The architecture discusses giving back to the wetland by limiting its footprint and allowing its regrowth, while designing for dismantlability of the structure once its use is deemed obsolete.The building unfolds and is also allowed to reassemble, upcycle elsewhere to take form for a newfound use.
