Spiral Dwelling Part 1 Project 2023 Daegeun Kim University of Hong Kong | China Presenting a departure from the conventional podium towers in Hong Kong, this project proposes a fresh approach to residential architecture. Instead of dichotomizing public facilities and residential units like the podium towers, the public facilities of the project wind around the residential towers.In the existing podium towers of Hong Kong, a clear division is evident between the public facilities and residential units. All public amenities are confined within the podium, while identical residential units are stacked on top, primarily designed for traditional nuclear families. The podium and residential tower are treated as separate entities, both in terms of circulation and structure.To address this issue, a solution is proposed: integrating public facilities within a continuous spiral. Upon arrival, residents ascend to the public level via a central lift before entering their respective residential blocks. This fosters dynamic interaction between the building's occupants and the public amenities.The spiral design divides the building into multiple clusters, enabling the incorporation of diverse residential types throughout the building.
