Harvest Haven: A Symbiotic Oasis is an innovative research center dedicated to urban food production. Built upon the principles of minimal adaptive reuse and climate responsive methodology, it represents a transformative space where sustainability and productivity intersect. This project is a testament to the power of repurposing existing structures and employing environmentally conscious strategies to create a vibrant and dynamic environment. The concept of Harvest Haven embraces the idea of symbiosis, where different elements coexist and interact in harmony. Through the application of minimal adaptive reuse, the center breathes new life into the former Al-Ghandour factories in Tripoli, Lebanon. Existing structures are repurposed and transformed, reducing waste, and maximizing resources. This approach not only preserves the site's history but also minimizes the environmental impact associated with new construction.
At the heart of Harvest Haven is its climate responsive methodology, which harnesses the power of nature to create an optimal indoor environment. The integration of hydromorphic materials in the building envelope allows for passive regulation of moisture levels, ensuring optimal conditions for the growth of crops. By capitalizing on natural light, ventilation, and insulation, the center reduces energy consumption and creates a sustainable and healthy space for plant cultivation.
