Breaking Boundaries, Building Connection Part 1 Project 2025 Nerima Shrestha University of Hertfordshire | UK The project reimagines the existing Science Block as a vibrant, collaborative hub that fosters creativity, interaction, and innovation. Once a static rectangular mass at the heart of the campus, the original building lacked social engagement and effective circulation, particularly on its north and south sides. The new design preserves the skeletal frame of the old structure as a tribute to its history, while introducing three pavilion-like blocks connected by elevated bridges. These bridges promote movement, reveal views of the preserved frame, and create meaningful dialogue between the past and present.By activating the once-passive courtyard and creating dynamic voids between the blocks, the design encourages connection and continuity. Each element is thoughtfully arranged to support informal encounters and shared experiences.Titled “Breaking Boundaries, Building Connec3ons,” the project breaks down physical, social, and architectural barriers to create an inclusive space where students can collaborate, converse, and build memories. It transforms the Science Block into both a symbol of the university’s legacy and a beacon for its future. Tutor(s) Thomas Trail
