The Lighthouse Collective

Part 1 Project 2025

The Lighthouse Collective is a high-density housing scheme supporting artists and makers through integrated living, working, and community spaces. Located at the junction of Glasgow’s Learning Quarter and Dennistoun, the design draws on the city’s historic grid to connect the scheme with its rich urban and cultural surroundings.

More than just housing, it acts as civic infrastructure, encouraging both individual creativity and collaboration. Artists across diverse disciplines - painting, sculpture, textiles, digital media, jewellery, and more - are supported by adaptable spaces. Individual flats include flexible work areas, while shared studios, exhibition spaces, and workshops offer opportunities to connect and share resources.

The housing is modular and highly adaptable; internal walls are non-load bearing, allowing residents to reconfigure their homes to suit changing creative practices and lifestyles. This flexibility recognises that no artist lives or works in the same way, letting spaces evolve over time to meet different needs.

Named ‘The Lighthouse Collective,’ the project symbolises safety, guidance, and creative illumination. Like a lighthouse guiding travellers, it provides a steady base amid the uncertainties of artistic life, fostering community, inspiration, and shared purpose. With room for 40 - 60 residents and active ground-floor commercial spaces, it proposes an inclusive, sustainable urban model centred on creativity and belonging.
