Maker’s Quarter - Made in Fleetwood

Part 1 Project 2025

Maker’s Quarter is a project exploring the act of making, consequently celebrating the unique history of Fleetwood whilst supporting connection and memory whilst creating an artefact – tangible heritage. The lack of connection between Fisherman's Friends (A worldwide lozenge brand) and Fleetwood, led the project to becoming a cultural workshop where community and visitors could create lozenges and their packaging as keepsakes or gifts, embodying the story of Fleetwood.

Situated on a tendril leading out from the heart of the Highstreet, my proposal acts as a bridge to the old dockland which the Council’s Regeneration Framework had outlined as an ideal zone for investment, hereby supporting Fleetwood’s future growth. Within the design, my architecture minimises barriers and revolves around a high- activity courtyard, where movement, making and accidental meeting points are encouraged.

A unique aspect of my design and a particular focus of my detail work are the distinct lightwells which introduce the courtyard’s geometry into the elevation. These were representative of the factory roofs which one would see as they approach the seaside town.

In essence, Maker’s Quarter is a Makerspace where community and visitors interlace, celebrating the town’s heritage, supporting Fleetwood’s future and spreading its story.
