School through the Eyes of Children

Part 1 Project 2025

In a world where education is beginning to revolve around online learning and AI assistance, we are losing touch with the core values of learning: Interaction, hands on activities, individuality and inclusivity. Despite technology taking over it leaves children disconnected. Children need exploration, make their own mistakes and learn from first hand experiences. They need to develop not only academic skills, but core life skills for the future and become educated in the environment they are living in. I have designed a Primary School which follows the Montessori pedagogy and acts as a Well-Being/SEND facilities Hub for all local schools within Nuneaton. The design of a ring of classrooms surrounds an inner courtyard which encourages self-generated play activities within this space and on the roof, as it is the children that decide the use of a space and not the designer. The retrofitted Nuneaton Library offers teacher training, sensory spaces, parental support rooms, children’s library/exhibition space, specialist therapy and a hydrotherapy pool.
