Between Concrete and Community: Transforming old structures for contemporary housing

Part 1 Project 2025

'Between Concrete and Community' calls for a shift in the architectural design process. Instead of starting from scratch, the project reimagines architecture by assembling a new spatial narrative from reused elements.

At the coreof this proposal is the idea of architecture as a social interface, a framework that balances privacy and community, where courtyards, access towers, and façades act as mediators between public and private life. Designed for disassembly and reuse, the project embraces change and circularity. It explores how a diversity of floorplans and shared spaces can foster a self-supporting community. The façade itself becomes a communicative membrane, in sequences, it reflects the activities behind it — offering, section by section, either protection or transparency, visual connection or visual separation. Urban design, therefore, does not end with the volumes themselves but continues into tectonic expression of the outer walls and into the very details of how reused elements are composed.

This project demonstrates how architectural “waste” can be transformed into meaningful spaces and how design can help build sustainable ways of living together with its own unique atmosphere. with its own unique atmosphere.
