Unveiling a Lost Civilisation

Part 2 Project 2025

This project explores climate change through the melting permafrost of the Sakha Republic, where the remains of a mysterious lost empire—Tartaria—begin to emerge. Blending Russian classical revivalism with mythology and folklore, the work uses architecture to question identity, heritage, and power.

Set within a fictional timeline from 2022 to 2037, the project imagines how these uncovered ruins are interpreted and reused—shifting from sacred relics to tools of state propaganda and personal transformation. A series of architectural proposals, including a deer-drink factory, a shaman’s hut, and a shrine, draw from Sakha culture and reimagined classical forms to create a new national narrative.

Visitors encounter these spaces through psychedelic visions triggered by Amanita Muscaria mushrooms, processed through reindeer—a traditional practice that opens up new ways of seeing the past. This altered perception challenges fixed ideas of truth, memory, and cultural legacy.

The project merges speculative fiction with critical design, proposing architecture as both a storyteller and a political instrument. It reimagines the past to reshape the future—raising questions about how myths are made, how power is performed, and how architecture can reflect or resist dominant ideologies.

Ultimately, the project invites viewers to reconsider architecture not only as a physical structure, but as a powerful medium for storytelling and cultural introspection.
