The Bamboo Blueprint Part 2 Project 2025 Sushant Jadhav University of East London London | UK Rooted in the principles of climate responsiveness and community integration, the design of the Foundation School in Hisar is shaped around the concept of “light wells as life wells.” These vertical voids are not mere skylights, they act as spatial anchors that bring in filtered daylight, promote stack ventilation, and organize movement across the built environment. Each light well is strategically positioned based on function, allowing the architecture to breathe, adapt, and respond to the users within. Sustainability is embedded not only in materiality but also in spatial philosophy. Bamboo, a fast-growing renewable material, forms the structural and expressive language of the project. Earthen walls provide thermal mass, balancing the region’s harsh summers and cold winters, while jali screens diffuse light and create patterns of shade and airflow. Courtyards and semi-open transitional spaces act as microclimatic buffers and promote natural ventilation, reducing the dependency on mechanical systems. The project functions as a hybrid: a school, a craft hub, and a community center. It fosters hands-on learning and inclusive development, where students and locals co-create, build, and learn together. This is architecture as a tool for empowerment, where space, material, and climate come together to nurture both people and place. Tutor(s) Armor Gutierrez
