Urban Lanterns Meeting Calamities: Buildings that Morph Part 1 Project 2018 Jianqiang Xia Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University | China In medieval Japan, there was a safe place for people escaped from suppression by the government or something evil. Those places were called Muen (Asylum), Kugai (Meditation Space), Raku (Market), which still potentially exist currently and will appear when the city is in emergency. Taking advantage of the hidden potential, a pop-up urban lantern was proposed in the downtown to bring the citizens together and lighten their relief in the event of an earthquake.
