The Re-Enchantment of Nature in the Post-Anthropocene

Part 1 Project 2020

The project proposes an architecture that is device for and initiation of the re- enchantment of nature. A radically ecological architecture becomes the framework for living in the more-than-human-world of the Post-Anthropocene. Boundless self- love, the project suggests, could be part of an alternative architectural solution of the environmental crises in the Anthropocene.

With references to process philosophy and land ethics, the project reflects the disenchantment of nature through anthropocentrism, and aims at sustaining a third- order biotic community where all entities live in relation. Living habits of typical creatures were studied, and human activities were arranged to have a minimum impact on the biotope. Ecological relationships in nature are embedded in the architectural system in terms of material cycle and energy flow, through the use of mycelium as the primary construction material and the transformation of biomass energy.

The project is a multispecies living environment where boundaries between different species, architecture and nature are blurred, providing opportunities for new spaces for reflection and contemplation. The project triggers and moderates humanity’s deepest fears of and desires for nature - our love, respect, and admiration for the land upon which we exist.
