Fragmental City: Front and Back at Edges Part 2 Project 2024 Huanyue Gao Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University | China The city’s open spaces are undefined, unclear, and out of the production system. These places are often seen as fragments in the city. However, it is on the opposite side of the city grid, providing new possibilities and energy for nature and the people inside. Sagrera in Barcelona is a city area that contains different urban fabrics. This required new space for public use. Therefore, this project aims to bring one forest into the site as one central open space in the city. Meanwhile, space design at the edges could provide commercial and spatial benefits. These spaces are designed as a fragmental architectural language through drawings and models. These methods analyse the edges fragmentally as a space with depth. In this process, buildings, open spaces, and natural elements are vital design elements from the local context. Drawing starts to describe the basic element. Projection, force line and model build the space relationship for leading direction. Architectural material life span, memory and adapted use are vital to connect these city fragments.
